Paris in one of the world’s most visited cities in the world with 29 million tourists in 2012.
But Paris is also famous for its rudeness. This week the city decided to launch a campaign to improve its reputation and better cater to the needs of tourists.
This campaign called “Do you speak Touriste?” is made of a website and and handbook containing greetings in eight languages including German, Chinese and Portuguese and advice on the spending habits and cultural codes of different nationalities.
Some 30,000 copies of this handbook is being distributed to taxi drivers, waiters, hotel managers and sales people in tourist areas..
Paris airports on strike: 50% of flights cancelled

Paris airports on strike today.
Wednesday 12 June 2013: 75% of flights are cancelled and more than one hour delay for other flights
Around 50% of flights in and out of Paris Orly, Roissy Charles de Gaulle and Beauvais airports are expected to be cancelled wednesday as a strike by French air-traffic controllers continues for the last day of the strike.
Latest - wednesday 1pm:
Strike will end wednesday night - no more strike next thursday.
Over 75% flight cancelled. Following the strike of the air-traffic controllers, 1.800 flights are cancelled this wednesday on 7.650 flights envisaged in France announces the Head office of the civil aviation.
Unions of air-traffic controllers have called for this strike in protest at european plans to renew flight organization and work. For the controllers the Single European Sky (SES) project will affect public safety and their working conditions.

6 french restaurants in the World's 50 Best Restaurants

With six restaurants in the top 50, France is the country best represented (same score than the United States) but is absent from the Top 10.
The first French restaurant of the list, , "L'Arpège" in Paris, arrives only in 16th position, follow-up of “Le Chateaubriand” (18th), “L'Astrance” (23), "L'Atelier Saint Germain de Joël Robuchon" (24) -who loses 12 places- and “ Le Mirazur” in Menton - south of France -(28).
“Septime” in Paris makes its appearance for the first time in the classification in 49th position. With “its not very expensive menus”, it proves “that the high prices are not an obligation when it is about the classification of the 50 Best Restaurants of the World”, are pleased the organizers.
Alain Ducasse receive the “Lifetime Achievement Award”.
This classification is the result of a vote of more than 900 chiefs, culinary critics and gastronomes in the world.

The "Salon de l’Agriculture 2013" opens its door this week-end for 9 days from Saturday 23 February to Sunday 3 March 2013 at the Porte de Versailles in Paris.
This agricultural show celebrates this year its 50th anniversary!
France’s largest agricultural event is part fair, part trade show, part blue-ribbon tournament. A dizzyingly diverse array of activities will be on offer, from a sheep-herding competition to performances of traditional music and dance to gardening workshops.
France’s finest livestock will be on display: over 3,500 animals, including rare cow breeds like the Bordelaise and Bearnaise, as well as stands featuring produce and farming machinery. Food lovers will be able to sample (and buy) products from this year’s winners of the historic Concours Général Agricole, an annual competition of France’s signature food and drink products....

Taxi strike in Paris

Paris’s airports and and city centre is clogged by taxis today as drivers in Paris and around France stage a one-day strike.
Ten unions representing 55 000 drivers in France are taking part in the day of convoys and blockades. Disruption is likely around airports and on the main roads into cities.
They were no more taxi in Paris's Airports by 10am this morning... Anyone travelling by plane should allow plenty of time to reach the terminal.
There are also protests elsewhere in France, including Marseille, Lyon, Nantes, Dijon, Bordeaux, Toulouse and Montpellier.

Everyday, from December 13h, 2012 until January 6th, 2013, the Grand Palais of Paris hosts the largest fleeting ice rink ever created in France : 1.800 m² of ice… For children by daytime and adults by night time!
Important, cut-line pass and other tickets won’t be accepted for nights at the Grand Palais des Glaces ! Only evening tickets bought at the entrance.

This year the Nuit Blanche 2012 in Paris si going to be a promenade from East to West.
On saturday October 6th 2012 the city of Paris will offer you a completely new route: a meandering line that crosses Paris from West to East, from Chaillot hill to Ivry-sur-Seine.
Laurent Le Bon, director of Metz Pompidou Center is for this time the director of this new edition.
His proposal is an invitation to explore the architecture of the city in all its contemporary complexity, and an opportunity for the public to enjoy, for the first time, belvederes, vantage points over the city that are usually not accessible but allow to take a glimpse at unfamiliar views of Paris and the Seine...

The kaleidoscope installation of Daniel Buren - Monumenta 2012

This time Daniel Buren’s work in situ is made of hundreds of horizontal circles, each touching the next, some larger, some smaller, some a little higher, some lower, fill the space.
Each sculpture is stretched with a membrane of translucent plastic film blue, yellow, orange or green. These are supported by black and white vertical posts, so many that they become a forest, half-drowned in colour and shadow.
Daniel Buren is the fifth artist to take part in Paris's Monumenta project with his kaleidoscope installation.

The 2012 S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna World's 50 Best Restaurants, produced by Britain's Restaurant Magazine, were unveiled yesterday after a panel of more than 800 chefs, restaurateurs, journalists and food experts.

- about 240 flights, that is 40% of the flights cancelled today at Paris Orly airport (3 April 2012)
- Delays from 1 to 2 hours at Bordeaux, Nice and Lyon airports.
- Pau, Rouen and Angoulême airports were closed this afternoon
- No delays at Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport
The travellers on departure or arrival of Orly airport on Tuesday3 April 2012, will have to get information about their flight before going to the airport. The Head office of the civil aviation (DGAC) announced this week end that she asked the airline companies to remove 20% of the flights for these two days, because of a call to the strike of three trade unions of air-traffic controllers.
“The disturbances are to be envisaged on the whole territory” and in particular in the regional airports as from Sunday evening, a spokesperson also prevented.
Strike is due to a reform of the organization of work.
DGAC affirms however that the airport of Roissy /Charles-de-Gaulle will not be touched.
